Residence Requirements:

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT. There is one present vacancy at the Erie County Department of Social Services.

Examples of Duties:

A Senior Social Services Logistics Coordinator coordinating logistical and space issues within the Department of Social Services; 

Plans and coordinates the office moves within the department;

Plans and coordinates telephone installations; moves voicemail resets;

Plans and coordinates data line installations;

Administers the telephone system used by the department, including the maintenance of voicemail, telephone numbers and name changes;

Consults with project manager regarding maintaining, creating and updating floor plans;

Maintains the inventory space used by the department;

Composes and types correspondence and reports;

Reviews work completed by contractors to assure completeness before payment is due;

Works directly with vendors and other supervision, planning space utilization projects; oversees work performed by vendors and other county departments to assure each project is completed properly and in a timely manner;

Handles direct contact with Office of Disabled to resolve employee accommodations;

Resolves logistical issues that arise from critical incident reports;

Assists in the planning of building renovations, including but not limited to floor plans, efficiency planning, furniture, safety issues, telephone, data, signage, egress routes;

Supervises hire work supervisor and writes and provides all work orders for all moving needs including additional or excess furniture; ensures each job is completed timely and properly;

Completes all paperwork associated with County surplus, including items needed or no longer needed within Department of Social Services;

Provides information for capital budget needs;

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience in the coordination of office moves, telecommunication or data service installation or relocation, layout, design and implementation of building/office floor plans. The six years must have included one (1) year of supervisory* experience.

Notes:

1. *Supervision – Responsible direction and control of subordinate employees.  This involves the assignment of work, approval of work, training, evaluation and discipline of employees.  The supervisory aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.     

2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

3. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

Subjects of Examination:

Scopes / Subjects of examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.

Name and number checking

These questions test for the ability to distinguish between sets of words, letters, and/or numbers that are almost exactly alike. Material is usually presented in two or three columns, and you will have to determine how the entry in the first column compares with the entry in the second column and possibly the third. You will be instructed to mark your answers according to a designated code provided in the directions.

Operations with Letters and Numbers

These questions test for skills and abilities in operations involving alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting. The questions require you to follow the specific directions given for each question which may involve alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting given groups of letters and/or numbers.
 

Keeping simple inventory records

These questions test for the ability to follow instructions in keeping simple inventory records of different materials received and distributed from a central location. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide will be required. You may have to compute total costs from quantities (number of units) and cost or price per unit. Knowledge of specific record keeping systems and techniques will not be needed.
 

Supervision

These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES:  It is recommended that candidates use a quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculator.  Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited.  You may not bring books or other reference materials.
