Residence Requirements:

THIS EXAMINATION IS OPEN TO ALL QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE ERIE COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER CORPORATION. At present there is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

The eligible list resulting from this examination will not supersede currently existing promotional eligible lists for this title, if any. The duration of all promotional eligible lists is four years from date of establishment unless otherwise indicated.

Examples of Duties:

Senior Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist performs technical and quality assurance functions associated with MRI, Computed Tomography (CT) and radiographic procedures at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation; 

Supervises staff in MRI and Imaging Service areas, including making assignments, scheduling, posting and assigning overtime, training and orientation, reviewing work, completing competency assessments and evaluations;

Acts as the hospital designated MRI safety officer; Performs venous injection for the administration of contrast pharmaceuticals following department policies and procedures;

Administers ionizing radiation;

Prepares and positions patients for imaging;

Performs or assists with MRI, CT and radiographic procedures;

Processes and prepares images for interpretation and report distribution/archive;

Reviews images for accuracy and quality;

Establishes, implements and maintains MRI policies and procedures and MRI protocols;

Performs or manages mandated regulatory compliance tasks and quality control in accordance with state, local, federal and accrediting agencies;

Inspects and keeps images, computer/digital, electronic transfer, processing and ancillary equipment in safe working order to ensure proper and safe performance before patient procedures are initiated;

Schedules and/or prioritizes procedures; coordinates the scheduling and care of patients with other departments;

Ensures a safe environment for external and internal customers; screens and educates anyone attempting to enter MRI restricted area about MRI safety and documents such screening;

Performs visual maintenance checks and quality control tests for equipment;

Meets with vendors to discuss existing and new products; provides related education/training to co-workers;

Reviews adverse drug reactions and extravasations daily logs;

Orders, maintains and tracks inventory;

Participates in new technology/product in-services, training programs and meetings and participates in hospital or department meetings, committees or initiatives.

Qualifications:

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE FOR TAKING THE TEST: Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class and must be serving and have served continuously on a permanent or contingent permanent basis in the competitive class for 24 months immediately preceding the date of the written test in the position of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession and maintenance of certification to administer contrast media intravenously issued by New York State Department of Health, in accordance with New York Codes, Rules and Regulations, Title 10, Part 89.40, at time of appointment and throughout;

Possession of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification as issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) at time of appointment.

Possession and maintenance of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification at time of appointment and throughout.

Maintenance of licenses and certifications throughout appointment.

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination.

Subjects of Examination:

Scope of the Examination: There will be no written or oral test for this examination. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of your training and experience against the duties of the position being tested.

Candidates must first complete an examination application and return it to the Erie County Department of Personnel on or before the last filing date of February 26,2021.

Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire.

The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be available on April 1, 2021 and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire between April 1, 2021, and midnight April 30, 2021.*

NOTE: *Candidates will not be able to claim any credit for training or experience gained after the application filing deadline of February 26, 2021. Candidates who fail to submit a questionnaire by midnight, April 30th, 2021, will not receive a rating.

INFORMATION FOR PROMOTION CANDIDATES

Unless otherwise indicated, the eligible list resulting from this examination will have a duration of four years and will not supersede existing promotional lists, if any.

RATINGS REQUIRED:  Test is rated on a scale of 100 with a passing mark at 70.  Test instructions may further divide the tests into parts and set minimum standards for each part.

Points will be added to scores of candidates who achieve a passing mark as follows: Seniority:  For each year of service in the classified service:

Less than 1 year……………………..................…0 points

1 year up to 6 years…………….…........................1 point

Over 6 years up to 11 years.....………......….........2 points

Over 11 years up to 16 years….…........….........…3 points

Over 16 years up to 21 years………..................…4 points

Over 21 years………………………..................…5 points

VETERANS:  Disabled and non-disabled veterans as defined in Section 85, New York State Civil Service Law, will have 5 and 2.5 points, respectively added to their earned scores if successful in the PROMOTIONAL examination.  You must claim these credits when you file application but you have an option to waive them any time prior to appointment.  If you have already used these credits for a permanent position in NYS, you may not claim them again.
