Honors local resident who serves as Village of Hamburg Recreation Supervisor and is involved in numerous organizations that serve Hamburg area youth

Hamburg, NY – Erie County Legislator John Gilmour named  Josh Haeick, Village of Hamburg Recreation Supervisor, the Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month at the Legislature’s session on September 23rd. Josh’s parents attended the presentation at Old County Hall.

Josh and his wife, Abagael along with their three children are long time Hamburg residents. As an employee of the village, Josh has spearheaded projects that involve the construction of a handicap accessible playground, improvements to Hamburg Junior baseball and softball diamonds, the creation of pickle ball courts at Glen Meadows, and the beautification and safety enhancements at Parkside Park. Most recently, Josh and his team were instrumental in outreach through the #FeedHamburg initiative which conducted food and hygiene drives to supply local families in need during the peak of the COVID-19 crisis. Josh is also a long-time volunteer with Hamburg Helps baseball and softball program and serves on the Board of Directors for the Luca S. Calanni Foundation. His work organizing the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Food Drive has brought in thousands of pounds of food for individuals in need.

“Josh is someone who any community would be lucky to have – he is hardworking and devoted to making Hamburg a great place for kids to live and play. I know he has more plans for the renovation of the Hamburg Swim Center and additional recreation facilities, and I’m excited to see what else he can accomplish. It is my honor and privilege to recognize him and to formally thank him for all of his hard work,” said Legislator John Gilmour.

"This is an honor that I share with my family, my co-workers and my community.  Without their love and support, I wouldn't have been bestowed such an honor. Legislator Gilmour and I share a common goal; putting the people of our community ahead of anything, including politics or any personal gain.  With that in mind, I'm even more driven to help improve the quality of life for residents of the Village of Hamburg and all of Western New York in the future," added Josh.

For more information on the Village of Hamburg recreation programs, funded in part by Erie County, visit their website at villageofhamburg.com. The village is currently offering safe after school programming for students involved in hybrid learning models, and all village playgrounds are open but advise all participants to follow social distancing guidance.
