Senior Services Pilot Program Provides Healthy Meals at Several Community Locations across Erie County
Erie County, NY - Billygans Café in Tonawanda is one of five restaurants involved in a pilot program to expand senior dining options across Erie County. This expansion was made possible through a joint federal grant shared with Albany County and aims to help promote healthy meal options for the aging while supporting local businesses in the process.
“Billy Gans offers a terrific menu, and the relaxed atmosphere really makes the place enjoyable. I’m proud to have this option for seniors living in the Tonawanda area who may not qualify for Meals on Wheels but still certainly enjoy having a meal prepared for them,” said Legislator Hardwick.
Also included in the program are Peg’s Place in Hamburg and Cozy Corners in Springville along with Mattie’s Restaurant and the West Side Bazaar, both located in the city of Buffalo. Applicants receive four vouchers per month, and the suggested (but not required) contribution is $3.00 per meal.
Hardwick continued, “We are committed to caring for our aging population and giving them the resources they need to enjoy their communities and remain here throughout retirement. This program is just another example of how we have taken that commitment to the next level and included local businesses in our mission.”
To apply, you can pick up an application at any of the restaurants or contact the Erie County Department of Senior Services for information via the contact form at their website www.erie.gov/seniorservices.
