ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH,  UB,  AND PATIENT VOICES NETWORK PRESENT A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION ON HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH),  the University at Buffalo (UB) and the Patient Voices Network (PVN) invite Erie County residents to an event on Tuesday, February 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the Delavan-Grider Community Center in Buffalo.

Two UB Department of Chemistry faculty will lead a discussion about environmental issues on the east side of Buffalo and west side of Cheektowaga. Attendees will participate in an open conversation about their concerns about infrastructure and the built environment of their neighborhoods, and issues related to healthy air, healthy water and a healthy environment.

This session is part of the ongoing work focusing on the east side of Buffalo and west side of Cheektowaga to address higher-than-average incidences of certain cancers. With support from Erie County, ECDOH and PVN are working with the University at Buffalo to educate residents on risk factors for those cancers in this area and how to reduce their cancer risks.

PVN is a group of informed and empowered patients in the community who advocate for improved health care in Western New York by partnering with the Department of Family Medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and other organizations.

There will be a question and answer session, and food and light refreshments will be provided. RSVP to the Patient Voices Network at (716) 816-7219 or jleone3@buffalo.edu.
