ERIE COUNTY COVID-19 VACCINE OUTREACH EXPANDS TO THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY

Vaccine clinic for restaurant workers scheduled at Rich Products on May 1; on May 8, ECDOH will partner with Resurgence Brewing for a “drink for a dose” promotion

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health has scheduled a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on May 1 at Rich Products, and is working with the restaurant industry to promote this clinic to restaurant workers and their families.

This is part of ECDOH’s ongoing vaccine outreach to businesses, houses of worship and community groups, ECDOH met with Robert Free, chair of the New York State Restaurant Association, and Jeffrey Ware of Resurgence Brewing Company last week to talk about how to improve vaccine access for restaurant employees. Free is also a member of the Erie County Board of Health. “Restaurants are an essential part of the economy and from speaking to restaurant owners and managers, they are invested in keeping their employees healthy,” said Free. “We are hoping for a strong turnout from every type of restaurant at this event, from cashiers at drive-thru chains to short-order cooks to wait staff at dine-in facilities.”

As another outreach method, ECDOH is partnering with Resurgence Brewing Company in Buffalo for a vaccine POD on May 8. At this event, Resurgence Brewing will offer a “drink for a dose” promotion. Anyone who attends for a first-dose of Moderna vaccine will receive a token to redeem at Resurgence Brewing for a beverage of their choice. “This is a way to reach people when they are out and about,” said Jeff Ware of Resurgence Brewing Company. “We are encouraging people to come with a friend or family member, go through the ECDOH vaccine station, and stop over at our Chicago Street location to enjoy a drink, on the house.”

“While demand has slowed for COVID-19 vaccine, there are still people in Erie County for us to reach – we are going to shift to more innovative tactics, based on data and input from the community,” said Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein. “Our department continues to see a significant number of new COVID-19 cases among 20-39-year-olds. There are many restaurant workers in this age group, and group that goes out to eat and drink at restaurants often. We want to make it easy and convenient for these Erie County residents to access COVID-19 vaccine.”

ECDOH thanks Rich Products, Resurgence Brewing Company and Robert Free for their support of these events and efforts to spread the word among restaurant employees and the community. Appointments strongly encouraged and can be made through the links below or by calling the Erie County COVID-19 Information Line at (716) 858-2929.
