ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PROVIDES COVID-19 DATA UPDATE FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 22, 2021

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is providing an update on recent COVID-19 data.

Using data made available through July 22, 2021, ECDOH received reports for July 22, 2021 48 new daily COVID-19 cases among Erie County residents, bringing the total of confirmed cases in the past seven days to 249. The total new cases per 100,000 residents in the past seven days results in a case rate of 27.1, an increase over the previous week’s case rate of 18.9 cases per 100,000 residents.

Erie County has experienced a significant increase in COVID-19 cases this week compared to the previous week.

Similar increasing trends are being seen at varying levels throughout the state and the entire country.

Although there is a rise in local cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases is still well below the weekly totals that Erie County experienced throughout the pandemic, especially when comparing data from the Winter/Spring surges. However, the current increasing trend is a concern to county officials.

Based on adjustments to reporting by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), vaccination data are broken out in to age group categories in our data update. According to the NYC COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker, as of July 23, 2021, 71.3% of Erie County residents 18 years or older received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. NYSDOH also updates vaccination data by demographics, by county and by ZIP code.
