ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PROVIDES STATEMENT ON NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY SCHOOL’S SHIFT TO REMOTE LEARNING

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) has made a recommendation to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School in Williamsville to switch to remote learning for a 10-day period.

ECDOH recommended this action based on 18 reported COVID-19 cases within three weeks, and seven reported in the past five days.

The ECDOH Office of Epidemiology has determined that in-classroom COVID-19 transmission is highly likely to have occurred. Combined with additional people in unrelated quarantines within the building, the overall risk level is raised considerably.

ECDOH thanks this school’s leadership for making this decision in the interest of health and safety of students and staff.

ECDOH works closely with school and district staff and will continue to help them evaluate the situation.

Parents and staff who wish to seek a free diagnostic COVID-19 test through ECDOH for themselves or a child can call (716) 858-2929. Diagnostic COVID-19 tests are strongly recommended 5-7 days past the last date of exposure.
