ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH UPDATE
April 3, evening

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is making the following announcements.

COVID-19 Data Update

As of 4/3/2020 (8 p.m.), we have received reports of 802 total positive lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Erie County residents. Twenty two (22) Erie County residents have died, and 141 people have recovered. There are currently 639 people in isolation.

We are providing this chart of age ranges and genders for individuals who have passed away due to COVID-19. This chart will be updated periodically.

NYSDOH Data

NYSDOH provided the following data about the reported results of COVID-19 laboratory testing for Erie County. As of April 2, 2,916* people in Erie County had COVID-19 tests performed at all labs reporting to NYSDOH ECLRS. 707 of those tests were positive, and 2,192 were negative. That represents a substantial increase from the previous day’s (April 1) cumulative total of 2,127.

Erie County Online COVID-19 Case Map

The ECDOH Office of Epidemiology and the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning’s Office of Geographic Information Systems are working to update the online COVID-19 case mapping tool with ZIP code data. This feature will be included in the online map soon. Visit www.erie.gov/covidmap.

Advice to “Snowbirds” and travelers returning to Erie County

During today’s live video with County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein, we provided reminders for “snowbirds” and travelers returning to the area, especially if they are elderly or living with serious or chronic medical conditions.

  • Stay home: essential errands only.

  • Limit interactions with others.

  • Maintain 6 feet of distance from others in public places.

  • Chain pharmacies are offering free Rx delivery.

  • Consider grocery delivery services, or shopping at off-peak hours with gloves or masks.

  • Make a plan if you or someone in your household becomes ill with COVID-19 symptoms.

Narcan Boxes

ECDOH is asking area motels, restaurants, grocery stores and food pantries that are open and serving patrons or customers to have Narcan on site. We have seen a significant increase in suspected overdose deaths in March, and Narcan can reverse the harmful effects of an opioid overdose if administered in time. ECDOH will provide a metal Emergency Narcan Boxes for installation, or a supply of Narcan kits, at no cost. Call (716) 858-7695 to receive Narcan or for more information.
