PROTECT YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR NEIGHBORS FROM THE FLU

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and Commissioner of Health Dr. Burstein received flu shots during National Influenza Vaccination Week

ERIE COUNTY, NY – Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Erie County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein received the influenza vaccine from Erie County Department of Health nurses as part of National Influenza Vaccination Week at an event on Wednesday, December 4.

“Every flu season is different, but one thing is constant, and that is that the flu vaccine can reduce the risk of flu and its complications, which can lead to hospitalization,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “Today we are setting an example and sending the reminder that vaccination for seasonal flu is important for public health.”

“The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone who is six months old or older,” said Erie County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein. “Along with protecting my own health, I am getting this vaccine to protect my family, my co-workers, and everyone with whom I come in contact during flu season.”

People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people 65 years and older, and people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease or those with a compromised immune system from certain medications or treatments.
