ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Departments of Health and Emergency Services, in conjunction with partners from local animal rescues, animal shelters, and Western New York’s pet loving community are joining forces to help dogs and cats get adopted into loving homes with WNY Furtastic Pet Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, February 18, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

The collaborative event’s goal is to find new families to adopt a substantial number of animals in one day. Also on hand will also be animal behavioral experts, groomers, pet trainers, pet-themed vendors and information on pet emergency preparedness. Local food trucks will be on hand to offer their culinary specialties:  Lloyd’s, House of Munch, the Cheesy Chick, O.G. Woodfire, R&R BBQ and Village Kettlekorn.

photoThe Adon is at the Erie County Emergency Services Training and Operations Center at (3359 Broadway near Union Road, Cheektowaga 14227). There will be 20 pet rescue and foster networks all under one roof with a wide assortment of adorable, adoptable animals ready to be adopted into their “furever” home. Every pet adopted will receive a free microchip and registration courtesy of the Erie County Department of Health, along with goodie bags and food from TLC Pet Food.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for potential adopters to find a new best friend. Through the ease of this one-stop shopping experience, we hope many of our furry friends will be going to their new home on Saturday,” said Erie County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein. “Unfortunately, each year millions of pets wind up in shelters across North America, and many of them will be euthanized due to overpopulation. With the Adopt-a-Thon we are helping to break that cycle, save lives and provide loving homes for these animals.”
