Legislator Lorigo secures additional funding for local Boys and Girls Clubs

Erie County Legislator Joseph C. Lorigo announces that the Elma, Marilla, Wales (EMW) Boys and Girls Club, the East Aurora Boys and Girls Club and the Holland Club will receive additional funding in the 2016 Erie County budget. The Legislature approved $1,667 for each club at today’s annual Budget Meeting to support the club’s mission of providing quality programming to the towns’ young people.

“These clubs are very important to many people, offering safe programming and activities that truly benefit the club members and their families. I am happy that we could identify additional funding to help the EMW, Holland and East Aurora Boys and Girls Clubs continue their noble efforts,” said Legislator Lorigo.

“The Boys & Girls Club has been providing quality youth services to the children of our community for over 75 years and the funding we receive is essential for us to continue to provide these quality programs. Funding from the County is essential support for our educational programs, homework help and tutoring and is resulting in our children’s academic success.  We are very grateful to Erie County and Legislator Lorigo, who has been extremely supportive of the work we do at the Club, ensuring that we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of our more than 1,300 Club members,” said Gary Schutrum, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club of East Aurora.

Legislator Lorigo urges the County Executive to stay his veto power and support this additional funding priority in next year’s budget. It is important to note that the additional funding was added into the 2016 budget without increasing overall spending in the next fiscal year. In fact, the Legislature lowered the property tax rate for the second consecutive year.
