Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo announces the transfer of three surplus county vehicles to the Town of West Seneca Highway Department, as they were unable to purchase new ones due to budgetary restraints resulting from COVID-19.

The vehicles are being retired by the county fleet and were set to go to auction, as they are being replaced. The Town of West Seneca Highway Department had expressed an urgent need for new vehicles and will take on all repair and maintenance responsibility.

Legislator Lorigo said, “I am glad I was able to help facilitate this transfer to help the Town of West Seneca Highway Department. Many municipalities are facing budgetary restraints due to COVID-19 and this will help their crews continue providing important services to the residents in our community. In addition, this will save money for the town as they will no longer need to maintain old vehicles requiring costly repairs. I appreciate all who worked collaboratively to make this happen.”

Brian Adams, West Seneca Highway Superintendent said, “I really appreciate Commissioner Mr. William Geary , Deputy Commissioner John Dennee, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and the members of the Erie County Legislature for working with the Town of West Seneca on this matter. I was recently elected as Highway Superintendent in town. After evaluating our fleet of vehicles along with time and money spent on repairs it was clear we were in need some of new or newer equipment.  With the unclear impact of the COVID pandemic, I knew future plans for vehicle replacement may become a little harder to achieve. The acquisition of these vehicles will help the West Seneca Highway department continue to provide great services to our residents and replace some of our older trucks dating back to late 90’s early 2000’s that have become counterproductive to use on a daily basis.”
