Erie County Legislator John Mills recently presented a proclamation to the Town of Evans Hometown Heroes founders and the Town’s Veterans Committee as part of National Armed Forces Day. The Town of Evans is home to one of the largest veteran populations in Western New York per capita and its Hometown Hero’s program recognizes, honors and remembers those residents who have served in the military. Over 95 veterans have been honored in just its first year with plans to increase that number in the years to come.

The Town of Evans Hometown Heroes program was made possible due to the hard work and passion of the Town Supervisor’s office, parks department, maintenance department, clerk’s office, families, friends, and local businesses. Legislator Mills presented the proclamation to Kate Singleton and her husband Jon who is a combat veteran and co-chair of the Town of Evans Veterans Committee.

Legislator Mills said, “Thank you to the Town of Evans Hometown Heroes program and everyone involved—including Kate and Jon. These veterans sacrificed their safety to ensure ours and it is our duty to thank them every chance we get in any way possible.”
