The Akron-Newstead bike path provides a safe, scenic setting for bicycles, rollerblading, walking and running. The path begins in the Village of Akron at the intersection of Cedar St(Rt. 93) and Eckerson Avenue. It runs approximately 4.6 miles southwest along the old Westshore railroad line and passes through Jackson St, Hake Rd, Clarence Center Rd, Barnum Rd, and Davison Rd, continuing on into Clarence to Salt Rd. The Peanut line section of the bike path begins between Clarence Center Rd and Barnum Rd and runs northwest approximately 2.2 miles where it connects to the Clarence section of the path.
A new section of path was completed and opened in 2020 that begins east of the Y near Clarence Center Rd and meanders along the Leisurewood Campgrounds with a crossing at Cummings Rd and ending at Buell St between Skyline Dr and Parkview Dr in the Village. At each of the road junctions there are stop signs, warning gates, signage indicating where you are located along the path, and benches to stop for a rest along your journey. At the Jackson St junction there is a water fountain.
No ATV's or snowmobiles are allowed directly on the bike path. If you travel the path with a pet, we ask that you please clean up any messes they may create.
All path users need to take note that any and all intersections where the bike path crosses the roadways are potentially hazardous and caution must be taken by the user when crossing. Stop signs are located on the bike path on both sides of the roadways, which users must adhere to. Oncoming motor vehicle traffic DOES NOT STOP.
