Composting Program

The Town of Newstead and Village of Akron jointly support their own municipal Composting Facility at 12707 Clarence Center Rd, Akron, NY 14001.

Times: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm; Saturdays April-November, 9:00am-12:00pm

UPON ARRIVAL ALL VISITORS/RESIDENTS TO THE JOINT HIGHWAY FACILITY MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE BEFORE DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP COMPOST.

All residents are required to obtain a Composting Permit, which can be used as many times as you want, but must be shown each time you visit the facility. The permits can be obtained at the Newstead Town Hall, Akron Village Hall and at the Joint Highway Facility.

Residents can drop off compost items such as yard waste, grass clippings and tree branches or can pick up compost materials such as topsoil and wood chips. Please note we do not load your vehicles.

COMMERCIAL CONTRACTORS AND LANDSCAPING COMPANIES ARE PROHIBITED FROM DROPPING OFF AND/OR PICKING UP FROM THE COMPOST FACILITY.
