Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the multi-agency commercial truck inspection conducted at ECC South Campus on July 7 resulted in forty summonses issued and thirty-two trucks taken off the road until the trucks were repaired and passed an additional inspection.

The inspection took place from 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the Sheriff’s office, the Amherst Police Department’s commercial truck inspector, and inspectors from the New York State Department of Transportation conducting sixty-one inspections.  The most common violations were improper or faulty brakes, trailer brakes, broken springs and axle securements, load securements and driver qualifications.

Sheriff Timothy Howard stated, “Some of the equipment violations on the trucks taken out of service were serious and it’s important for the motoring public to know that my office has a unit checking these commercial trucks and making our highways safer.  I also want to thank the Amherst Police Department and the DOT for their assistance during this inspection because their partnership allowed us to triple the number of vehicles we could inspect.”

The Erie County Sheriff Office and its partners will be conducting future commercial safety inspections throughout 2016.
