Intoxicated Boat Captain Also Found With Marijuana

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the Marine Unit arrested a boat operator for BWI following a vessel stop for violations on the east branch of the Niagara River Sunday night.

Around 9:30 P.M., Deputies Krypel, Okal, and Coulombe stopped a boat after observing the vessel operating without navigational lights.  While speaking with the operator, they observed signs of intoxication and Thomas Stedman, 19 of Grand Island, refused to submit to a breath test.  Subsequently, Stedman was arrested for BWI, unlawful possession of marijuana, and four separate navigational law violations.

Stedman was issued tickets and released to a sober third party.
