Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces the successful completion of a Family Court warrant sweep.  The operation was conducted on Wednesday, October 23, and the detail included deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Family Court Warrant Unit.

The Family Court Warrant and Child Support Enforcement Unit participated in the daylong sweep.  Members of the unit searched throughout the City of Buffalo and Erie County for individuals wanted on active Family Court warrants.  The Sheriff’s Office unit utilizes these twice a year sweeps to combat crime and concentrate on persons who are not paying child support or obeying court orders.

Deputies arrested and took nine subjects with a combined eighteen warrants into custody.

Arrested in the sweep were:

  • James A. Piraino, 53 of Buffalo, was arrested on one Erie County Family Court Child Support Warrant, one Lackawanna PD warrant for petit larceny and trespassing, and one Cheektowaga PD warrant for felony forgery.

  • Michael S. Shingleton, Sr., 28 of Buffalo, was arrested on an Erie County Family Court Child Support Warrant.

  • Arthur C. Lachut, Jr., 28 of Lackawanna, was arrested on an Erie County Family Court Paternity Warrant.

  • Tanner Torres, 21 of Buffalo, was arrested on one Erie County Family Court Paternity Warrant and one Lackawanna PD warrant for violation of probation.

  • Thomas W. Brown, 36 of Cheektowaga, was arrested on an Erie County Family Court Child Support Warrant.

  • Kevin Carrasquillo, 20 of Buffalo, was arrested on one Erie County Family Court Paternity Warrant and three Buffalo PD warrants with multiple charges including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and concealing contraband.

  • Jamie R. Sensor, 38 of Buffalo, was arrested on one Erie County Family Court Child Neglect Warrant, one Hamburg PD warrant for aggravated harassment, one Buffalo PD warrant for petit larceny, and one New York State Police warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance.

  • Jahtavius Garrett, 20 of Buffalo, was arrested on an Erie County Family Court Paternity Warrant.

  • James Nelson, 61 of Buffalo, was arrested on an Erie County Family Court Child Support Warrant.

The defendants not remanded to the holding center were processed and released by Family Court.

Deputies are confident that intelligence gathered during yesterday’s sweep will lead to more arrests in the following days and weeks as Deputies continue their efforts to enforce Family Court Orders.

In 2018, the unit processed nearly 3,500 summonses, warrants, and orders of protection.
