2014 Corrections Academy Graduates

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff’s Office announced the graduation of twenty-six new Deputies and Correction Officers from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Training Academy.

The graduation ceremony was held at Erie Community College’s City Campus auditorium where Undersheriff Mark Wipperman and Jail Management Division Superintendent Thomas Diina addressed the graduates and their families and presented them with Graduation Certificates.

Undersheriff Wipperman said, “I am always excited to welcome new Deputies and Correction Officers to the law enforcement community and I share their family’s pride in watching their son or daughter receive the Graduation Certificate.”

The Deputies and Officers will be assigned to the Jail Management Division and will continue their training for an additional three weeks before their official assignment.

“This class is part of an unprecedented level of hiring that came about as a result of the cooperative efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, County Executive and Legislature, and the NYS Commission of Correction.  Since 2012, we have been running three academies per year in an effort to increase our staffing levels.  The results have been a reduced overtime burden on our Deputies, and a better atmosphere within the facilities.” Superintendent Thomas Diina.
