Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro

Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro recently presented The Green Buffalo Pub in Lancaster with a proclamation celebrating Irish Heritage Month. As of 2011, there were 34.5 million Americans (over 10 percent of the population) identified as Irish according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Irish American Heritage Month is meant to honor the achievements and contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants living in the United States. The heritage month coincides with St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish national holiday on March 17th that is a Roman Catholic religious holiday honoring the Saint who introduced Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century.

Legislator Todaro said, “Parades, community events, Irish dancing, live music, the list goes on and on! The Irish in our area really know how to turn St. Patrick’s Day into a month-long celebration and it is so wonderful! The Irish have had a huge impact on Western New York so it is great to see the heritage being honored on such a high level!”

For this year’s month of recognition, Legislator Todaro visited the Green Buffalo Pub, which has been a staple in the Lancaster community for more than 20 years.  Legislator Todaro presented a proclamation to two employees who were busy at work last weekend.

“It was my pleasure to stop by Green Buffalo Pub in Lancaster last weekend to mark the occasion,” Legislator Todaro added. “It’s no surprise the bar/restaurant has seen so much success over the years. Be sure to support these outstanding local businesses whenever you get the chance!”
