Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro is requesting additional security cameras throughout the Erie County Holding Center to increase protections for both officers and inmates in the facility.

Legislator Todaro sent a letter to jail management representatives highlighting the record-setting amount of surplus and funding from the federal government that could be used to install the cameras. Specifically, the letter requests full video coverage in all areas of the holding center.

Legislator Todaro said, “Having video surveillance in all areas of the holding center will provide clear documentation of events should there be an incident. This is important to protect inmates from possible mistreatment and it would also highlight potentially false accusations made against law enforcement. Erie County has the funding to make this happen and I believe it should be a top priority of ours as we look at next year’s budget.”
