The County Clerk serves as the Clerk for the Supreme and County Court of Erie County and is therefore responsible for keeping all court-related documents. Civil actions begin here by filing the papers and obtaining an index number from the Actions and Proceedings Department. All papers are filed in the Actions and Proceedings Department when the action is finished. Recent technological updates enable the electronic filing of some court cases, improving the efficiency of this Department.
NOTIFICATION: e-Filing Now Mandatory
As of Tuesday, October 1, 2013, under Chapter 184 of the laws of 2012, which authorizes mandatory e-filing in Erie County Supreme Court, will continue conversion from consensual to mandatory e-filing of court matters by expanding the types of cases now required to be electronically filed.Electronic Filing of court documents is now mandatory in Erie County through the New York State Court Electronic Filing System (NYSCEF).
