Basic Course for Peace Officers

September 24 – December 12, 2013

Classes held Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 – 10:00pm

And Saturdays 8:00am – 1:00pm

 

Description:

Personnel who attend and successfully complete this course will receive certification as required by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council for minimum peace officer status.  Course will include instruction on Art. 35, use of force issues; Arrest Techniques/Defensive Tactics; NYS Penal Law; Criminal Procedure Law; preliminary and crime scene investigation techniques; ethics; and other topics required by MPTC for certification. The firearms portion will be offered at a later date.

Target Audience:

This course is recommended for personnel who require certification by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council for minimum peace officer status. Certification is granted only to those specifically listed in section 2.10 of the New York State Criminal Procedure Law.

  • Course enrollment will be limited.
  • Out of county officers must provide a certificate of residency form.  Please call if you need additional information.
  • Unless enrollment permits otherwise, agencies are limited to allow equal opportunity to this course.
  • There will be a tuition charge for this course.

Please Observe The Academy Dress Code:

Uniform or shirt and tie for men, proper business attire for women; blue jeans are ‘NOT” acceptable
