Acting District Attorney Flaherty makes Appointment to the Erie County Charter Revision Commission

Acting District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces today that he has appointed attorney Cheryl Meyers Buth to the Erie County Charter Revision Commission. This Commission, made up appointees from the County Executive, County Comptroller, County Clerk, Sheriff and each County Legislator, is tasked with studying the operations of the Erie County Charter and Erie County Administrative Code to ensure effectiveness of County government. The Commission will then submit a final report with findings and recommendations to the County Legislature and County Executive.

Ms. Meyers Buth, a graduate of Toledo Law School, is in private practice with Murphy Meyers LLP, and is the owner of R1 Sports Management LLC, representing professional basketball players. She was admitted to practice in 1994 and is also admitted in United States District Court for the Western District of New York, United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, and United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Ms. Meyers Buth is also a legal analyst at WGRZ-TV Channel 2.

 

Ms. Meyers Buth received the 2014 “Woman Lawyer of the Year Award” from the Women Lawyers of Western New York. She was appointed to act as Referee in nationally publicized Flight 3407 litigation, and received the Distinguished Alumni Award, Mt. Mercy Academy. In 2013, she was the recipient of the M. Dolores Denman Lady Justice Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Western New York Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, as well as the “Criminal Justice Act Award” from the Judges of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. Ms. Meyers Buth has served a two- year term on the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society Erie County. She was elected by peers to Superlawyers list, which names the top 5% of practicing lawyers in Western New York seven years in a row. She has served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a co-editor of Atticus Journal, served on the Erie County Bar Association Subcommittee on Integrated Domestic Violence Courts, and Co-Chair of the Criminal Law Committee for the New York State Women’s Bar Association.
