Michael J. Keane

Michael J. Keane was named First Deputy District Attorney on March 1, 2017, leaving private practice to join District Attorney John J. Flynn’s Leadership Team. 

Mr. Keane began his legal career as a solo private practitioner, representing criminal defendants in Erie County before joining the Erie County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney from 1994 - 1999.  He first learned to be a trial attorney and prosecutor in the Erie County Justice Courts and Buffalo City Court, under District Attorney Kevin M. Dillon.  Keane honed his skills as a trial attorney in Erie County Superior Courts, while working for District Attorney Frank J. Clark. 

In 1999, Keane left the District Attorney’s to pursue his career as a trial attorney, handling civil and criminal matters.  He began his work as a private practitioner representing clients in both civil and criminal matters for the law firm Forton & Forton.

Mr. Keane joined Walsh, Roberts & Grace in 2000, continuing to represent clients in trials involving civil and criminal matters in New York State Supreme Courts, primarily in Erie, Niagara, Wyoming and Genesee Counties.  In addition to representing clients charged in criminal courts, Keane handled matters on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in civil lawsuits throughout Western New York.

Mr. Keane joined the firm of Colucci & Gallaher, P.C. in 2009, where he expanded his practice to federal court.  Keane continued to represent clients as a trial attorney in both civil and criminal lawsuits before New York State Supreme Courts in Erie, Niagara, Genesee and Allegany Counties, as well as the Federal District Court in the Western District of New York. 

During his 25-plus years as a trial attorney, Keane was fortunate to be able to argue appeals before the New York State Appellate Division, Fourth Department and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Keane is a graduate of Canisius High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Siena College, his Master of Business Administration Degree from Clarkson University, and his Juris Doctor Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law.
