Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 17-year-old Ziaire Davis of Buffalo has been arraigned before State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski on an indictment charging him with two counts of Assault in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
It is alleged that around October 7, 2017, the defendant shook his 2-month-old daughter and on another occasion, threw the baby onto a bed, hitting an adjacent wall.
The baby was treated at Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
Davis pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $75,000. If convicted of all the charges, Davis faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Detective Sgt. William Cooley and Detectives John Garcia, Antonio Borelli and Daniel Redmond of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad, Det. Melanie Janusz of the BPD Sex Offense Squad and Lt. Brian Britzzalaro.
Chief Rosanne E. Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau are prosecuting the case.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
