Buffalo Man Indicted for Attempting to Sexually Assault Juvenile on Bike Path

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 40-year-old Juliene M. Moore, also known as Julian Johnson, of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on an indictment charging him with the following offenses:

  • One count of Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree (Class “C” felony)
  • One count of Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the Second Degree (Class “E” felony)
  • One count of Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class “E” felony)

It is alleged that on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at approximately 2:34 p.m., the defendant approached a juvenile on the North Buffalo Rails to Trails path near the area of Heath Street near Angle Street in the City of Buffalo. The defendant is accused of grabbing the victim’s waist from behind, covering the victim’s mouth with his other hand and attempting to subject the victim to sexual contact by forcible compulsion. The victim allegedly screamed and attempted to fight off the attack. The defendant, who was not known to the victim, allegedly rode off on a bicycle when two bystanders came to intervene.

Moore was arrested shortly after the alleged incident. He was arraigned before Buffalo City Court Judge Peter J. Savage, III on attempted criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child charges on April 1, 2022. He was held without bail. 

Moore is scheduled to return on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. for further proceedings. He continues to remain held without bail.

If convicted of all charges, Moore faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Special Victims Unit for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
