Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, announced that 21 year-old Damaricus Worthy of 61 Butler St, Buffalo, was sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns to one to three years in prison on counts of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First Degree and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree. 

On December 5, 2016, New York State Police pulled over Worthy for speeding on the Kensington Expressway.  During the traffic stop, Worthy put his vehicle in gear and raced away in an attempt to flee.  Buffalo Police officers assisted in a short high speed chase which ended when Worthy’s vehicle struck a tree.  Worthy ran from the vehicle and was quickly caught by a Buffalo Police officer.

While examining the crashed vehicle, $4500 in counterfeit currency was found.  Worthy admitted that he had intended on purchasing marijuana with the fake money when he had been stopped for speeding. 

DA Flynn commends the great work of New York State Police, including Trooper Joseph Niezgoda and the Buffalo Police Department, including Officer Peter Miller.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin T. Wallens.
