Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 30-year-old Jason Bishop of 168 Wakefield Avenue in Buffalo has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Thomas P. Franczyk to five years in prison plus five years post-release supervision. 

In August, the defendant pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2^nd Degree. 

On November 27, 2016, Bishop was engaged in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend on Townsend Street in the City of Buffalo.  While Bishop was arguing with his girlfriend in the middle of the street, he pulled out a pistol and shot it into the air.  Police responded to a 911 call for “shots fired” and found Bishop fleeing the scene in a silver sedan.  Bishop then led police on a high speed chase until he crashed his car and ran away on foot, leaving the weapon in the center console of the car.  Police chased Bishop down and arrested him without incident.  

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Officers Brian Tripp, Sean Godios, Patrick Overdorf and Neil Sullivan in the Buffalo Police Department. 

The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr., who is assigned to DA Flynn’s Felony Trials Bureau.
