Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 53-year-old Mark Dublino of Cheektowaga has been arraigned by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges on a ten count indictment charging him with four counts of Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Aggravated Criminal Contempt, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree and one count of Burglary in the Second Degree. 

It is alleged in the indictment that on June 4, 2016, Dublino burglarized the Amherst home of his former girlfriend. 

It is also alleged that two days later, on June 6, 2016, the defendant again entered the home of his former girlfriend, in violation of an order of protection, armed with a sledgehammer. While there, he attacked her and a friend, striking each multiple times in the head with the sledgehammer. 

Immediately following the attack on his former girlfriend and her friend, the defendant is alleged to have driven to his former girlfriend’s parents’ Amherst home and attacked her elderly father with a shovel. 

All of the victims are in the process of recovering from their injuries. 

Dublino pleaded not guilty, and he was remanded to jail without bail.  An order of protection was also issued, requiring the defendant to avoid all contact with the victims. If convicted of all the charges, he faces a maximum of 75 years in prison. 

DA Flynn commends the Amherst Police Department for its thorough investigative work, including Detectives Richard Walters, Robert Cunningham and Thomas Thielman. 

Assistant District Attorneys Matthew Szalkowski and Danielle D’Abate are prosecuting the case. 

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
