Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 26-year-old Raaquim McCrayer of Cheektowaga has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 6 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
On January 28, 2017, the defendant, armed with a pistol, forced his way into a home on Hartford Road in the Town of Amherst. Once inside, the defendant shot the male victim several times over a financial dispute.
In June 2018, McCrayer pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree. This was the highest charge in the indictment against him.
DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Amherst Police Officer Beth Stephens, who analyzed the voluminous cellular records to develop defendant as the perpetrator, and Detectives Bob Stephens and Jeffrey Gilbert for their work in interviewing the defendant.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit.
