Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Jonathan Williams of Cheektowaga was sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to 2 to 4 years in prison.
In March 2016, the defendant was arrested for an assault on his girlfriend after striking her in the face with a crowbar. The victim suffered a facial laceration, which required 10 stitches. Williams pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree in May 2017. When the defendant failed to appear for sentencing, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On October 31, 2017, NFTA Transit Police officers stopped a driver at red light on East Amherst Street in the City of Buffalo. When officers went to check the driver’s license, the motorist sped off. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house on East Amherst Street near Parkridge Street. A passenger and a two-year-old child were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Williams pleaded guilty to Aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree in December 2017.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew S. Szalkowski of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau prosecuted these cases.
