Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Nadiyah Whitaker of Cheektowaga has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Thomas P. Franczyk on an indictment charging her with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

It is alleged that on January 1, 2017, around 10:00 a.m., at 250 Gold Street in the city of Buffalo, the defendant fatally shot 30-year-old Shanna Mason of Sloan, NY.

Whitaker pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail. If convicted of the murder charge, she faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives Michael Mordino, Timothy Salamone and Richard Wagstaff.

Homicide Bureau Chief Colleen Curtin Gable and Assistant District Attorney Kevin M. Linder are prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
