Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia has found 47-year-old John E. Smith of City of Tonawanda guilty of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree.

On June 16, 2017, Smith started a fire in a garage behind his apartment on Broad Street in the City of Tonawanda. The blaze caused more than $10,000 in damage to the garage and the contents inside.

Smith faces up to a year in jail when he is sentenced by Justice Buscaglia on Thursday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. He was released on his own recognizance.

Felony Trials Bureau Chief Paul J. Glascott prosecuted the case.
