Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 18-year-old Calvin D. Clemons of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the First Degree (Class “A-I” felony), one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Robbery in the First Degree (Class “B” felony).

The defendant and an adolescent offender are accused of conspiring to rob the victim by luring him to C Street in the City of Buffalo. It is alleged that on March 29, 2021, at approximately 8:13 p.m., the defendant and the adolescent offender stole the victim’s backpack. It is further alleged that during the course of the robbery, the victim was shot in the leg, chest and side of his body.

The victim, 20-year-old Trenten Jacob Sink of Lockport, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he died from his injuries.

Earlier this month, Clemons was arrested on the indictment warrant by the Gwinnett Police Department during a traffic stop in Georgia. He was transported back to Western New York yesterday after waiving extradition.

Clemons is scheduled to return on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. for further proceedings. He was held without bail.

If convicted on all counts, Clemons faces a maximum sentence of life without parole.

The co-defendant, a 16-year-old male from Buffalo, was arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Robbery in the First Degree (Class “B” felony) on August 26, 2021.

The adolescent offender is scheduled to return on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 10:15 a.m. for a pre-trial hearing. before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. He remains in custody at the Erie County Youth Services Center without bail.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad for their work in the investigation. Flynn also commends the Gwinnett Police Department for their assistance in apprehending the defendant.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eugene T. Partridge, III of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
