Defendant Pleads Guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide for Fatal Stabbing at Elmwood Avenue Plaza

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 38-year-old Frederick D. Jordan, III of Buffalo pleaded guilty today before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class “E” felony. The defendant appeared virtually from the Erie County Correctional Facility.

On May 1, 2020, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the defendant stabbed 41-year-old Duane Donaldson during an altercation in the parking lot of a plaza on Elmwood Avenue near Hinman Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim died at the scene.

Jordan faces a maximum of 4 years in prison when he is sentenced on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.

DA Flynn commends Det. Sgt. Steve Turner, Det. Anthony Lapiana, Det. Erin McCarthy, and Det. Chris Sterlace of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Unit for their work in the investigation. DA Flynn also commends the off-duty firefighter who intervened during the attack.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine M. Garvey of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.
