Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 39-year-old Dennis McAndrew of Buffalo has been arraigned by Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with one count of Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Strangulation in the Second Degree.

Between December 14 – 16, 2017, the defendant is accused of beating and strangling a woman inside his Olcott Avenue home. When police officers arrived at the home, the victim was unresponsive. The victim spent several days at ECMC being treated for multiple injuries to her face and body.

The defendant was remanded without bail. In addition, an order of protection was issued, prohibiting the defendant from having any contact with the victim.

McAndrew is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, March 29 at 2 p.m.

If convicted on all charges, McAndrew faces up to 7 years in prison.

Holly P. Tucker, Chief of the DA’s Domestic Violence Bureau, is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
