Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 50-year-old John Jaycox of Buffalo has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice John Michalski to an indeterminate sentence of 20 years to life in prison. The defendant was sentenced as a second violent felony offender.
On March 15, 2018, at approximately 2 p.m., the defendant entered a chocolate shop located on Broadway in the City of Buffalo. Once inside, Jaycox attacked a 60-year-old employee.
In November 2018, a jury found Jaycox guilty, as charged, on one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, one count of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the Second Degree and one count of Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.
In addition to the sentence, the judge issued an order of protection, prohibiting the defendant from contacting the victim.
DA Flynn commends the investigative work by members of the Buffalo Police Department, including Det. Sgt. Brian Mahoney.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Nathanael C. Kapperman and Erin E. Hart of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
