Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 23-year-old Raekwon Barnes of Cheektowaga has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns to 8 years in prison.

On April 3, 2017, the defendant was arrested by a parole officer during a routine search of his home. A loaded and operable firearm was found in the basement.

Barnes was convicted by a jury of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree on January 19, 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Ashley Morgan of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit and Assistant District Attorney Danielle Phillips of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau prosecuted the case.
