Former Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Pleads Guilty to Domestic Assault

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 40-year-old Dennis McAndrew of Buffalo pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to one count of Assault in the Second Degree.

Over the course of two days in December 2017, the defendant assaulted a woman inside his Olcott Avenue home. When police officers arrived at the home, the victim was unresponsive. She spent more than a week at ECMC to be treated for multiple injuries to her face and body.

McAndrew faces a maximum of 7 years in prison when he is sentenced on Thursday, September 13 at 9:30 a.m.

The defendant remains remanded without bail. The judge issued an order of protection, prohibiting defendant from having any contact with the victim.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Lt. Brian Britzzalaro, Officer James Reese, Det. Julie Ledwin, Det. Jeffrey Banes, Det. Christopher Sterlace, Officer Nicole Wrazen and Officer Mark Slawek of the Buffalo Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Holly P. Tucker, Chief of the DA’s Domestic Violence Bureau.
