Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 38-year-old Daniel W. Syracuse of Town of Tonawanda was arraigned this morning before Amherst Town Court Justice Kara Buscaglia on one count of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree (Class “D” felony) and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class “A” misdemeanor).

The defendant is accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages and images with a juvenile through text messages and a social media application in 2015. The defendant was working as a track coach at Williamsville South High School at the time of the alleged crime.

Syracuse is scheduled to return on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. for further proceedings. He was release on his own recognizance as the charges are non-qualifying for bail.

If convicted of all charges, Syracuse faces a maximum of 7 in prison.  

DA Flynn commends Detective Ronald Smith, Detective Daniel Quinlan, Detective Edward Solak, Detective Daniel McCollum of the Amherst Police Department for their work in this investigation.   

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
