Gunman Sentenced to Prison Time for Two Separate Shooting Incidents on City's East Side

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 24-year-old Demetrius Crosby of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to a determinate sentence of 11 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On June 9, 2020, at approximately 5:34 a.m., the defendant knocked on the victim’s front door on Woodlawn Avenue in the City of Buffalo then intentionally fired multiple shots into the house with an illegal gun. The door was damaged, but no injuries were reported.

On June 24, 2020, at approximately 6:55 p.m., the defendant shot another victim in the vicinity of Norfolk Avenue near Kensington Avenue in the City of Buffalo with an illegal gun. The victim was taken to ECMC where he was treated for an injury to his leg. 

Crosby pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felonies) and one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” felony) on June 28, 2021.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Gun Violence Unit for their work in the investigation.  

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the Tactical Prosecution Unit.
