Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that a jury has found 37-year-old Gregory Steele of Buffalo guilty of one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “C” violent felony. The jury rendered their decision after a one-week trial. 

On July 2, 2019, at approximately 3:14 p.m., the defendant pointed a loaded revolver at a group of people on Person Street in the City of Buffalo. Buffalo Police officers found the illegal weapon in the trunk of a vehicle. The weapon was linked to the defendant through DNA analysis.

Steele was also indicted on one count of Menacing in the Second Degree, but was acquitted of the charge.

Steele faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department as well as Erie County District Attorney’s Office Confidential Criminal Investigators Mike Wright and Sal Valvo for their work in the investigation. 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Noha Elnakib and Lauren Nash of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
