Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 33-year-old Krystal Rains of Kenmore has been arraigned by Erie County Court Judge Michael Pietruszka on an indictment charging her with 12 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Device in the First Degree, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny.

It is alleged that Rains forged $20 Federal Reserve Notes to make purchases at Walmart, Home Depot and CVS. A search warrant executed at the defendant’s home uncovered templates and other tools used to make counterfeit bills.

If convicted on all charges, Rains faces more than 100 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends investigative work by the Amherst Police Department and the United States Secret Service.

Candace K. Vogel, Chief of the DA’s Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau, is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
