Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 53-year-old Jose Eiras Oviedo has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to a determinate sentence of 9 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On Thursday, August 15, 2019, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the defendant caused the death of his girlfriend, 57-year-old Alina Vega-Lantaron, by stabbing her during a domestic dispute inside their apartment on 15th Street in the City of Buffalo. The defendant also suffered a stab wound during the incident.

Oviedo pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class “B” violent felony, on October 30, 2019.

DA Flynn commends Det. Terrance Supples of the Buffalo Police Department for his work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine M. Garvey of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.
