Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 53-year-old Jose Eiras Oviedo has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to a determinate sentence of 9 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On Thursday, August 15, 2019, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the defendant caused the death of his girlfriend, 57-year-old Alina Vega-Lantaron, by stabbing her during a domestic dispute inside their apartment on 15^th Street in the City of Buffalo. The defendant also suffered a stab wound during the incident.

Oviedo pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class “B” violent felony, on October 30, 2019.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine M. Garvey of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.
