Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 38-year-old Randy White of Buffalo has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Class “D” felonies, and one count of Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, a Class “A” misdemeanor.

It is alleged that on February 27, 2018, at approximately 9 p.m., defendant recklessly caused physical injuries to two parole officers who were conducting a routine residence visit of a person under community supervision on Northumberland Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

The officers approached the defendant’s vehicle that was parked in a driveway and ordered him to turn the engine off. The defendant allegedly refused the officer's order, putting the vehicle into drive and reverse numerous times. One of the parole officers was injured while jumping away from the vehicle to avoid being hit. The other officer suffered an injury to his hand during the incident. The defendant was subsequently shot in the leg by one of the parole officers.

Buffalo Police located the defendant several miles away from the scene. He was taken to ECMC to be treated for his leg injury.

If convicted on all charges, White faces a maximum of 7 years in prison. A return court date has not been scheduled.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work by Det. Scott Malec and Det. Mark White of the Buffalo Police Department.

Assistant District Attorney Lauren Nash of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau and Gary Hackbush, Chief of the DA’s Tactical Prosecution Unit, are prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
