Buffalo Man Arraigned on Manslaughter Charge for Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend Inside Her Apartment

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 45-year-old Otis L. Johnson, Jr. of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Andrew C. LoTempio on one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony).

It is alleged that on Monday, December 19, 2022, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the defendant stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in the leg during a fight. The crime occurred inside of the victim’s apartment on the 300 block of Riley Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim, a 56-year-old female, died from her injuries.

Johnson is scheduled to return on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. He was held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, Johnson faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
