Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 40-year-old Cornelius Caddele of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Debra Givens on charges relating to an incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon outside the Juneteenth Festival at Fillmore Avenue and Genesee Street.  The defendant was charged with the following offenses:

  • 2 counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a D felony,

  • Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, an A misdemeanor,
  • Resisting Arrest, an A misdemeanor,

It is alleged that on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the defendant was observed by BPD officers on bike patrol to be operating a vehicle, a Kawasaki ATV, recklessly on a public street.  Officers initiated a stop of the ATV and the defendant did stop momentarily but did then attempt to flee.  While attempting to flee, the defendant did strike both officers, causing injury.

Caddele is scheduled to return on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.  No bail was set.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
