Buffalo Man Indicted for Murder Near the Buffalo State College Campus

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 24-year-old Hommys Rivera-Lopez, of Buffalo has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-1” felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “C” felony.

It is alleged that on October 16, 2018, in the vicinity of Letchworth St. in the City of Buffalo that the defendant shot and killed Emmanuel Correa-Villegas.  The defendant then fled to Puerto Rico where he was located by the U.S. Marshals Service.  The defendant waived extradition and was returned to Buffalo for prosecution.

A return date has not yet been scheduled. He remains held without bail.

If convicted on the charge, he faces a maximum 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detective Sgt. Carl Lundin and Detective Adam Stephany of the Buffalo Police Department and members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Felony Task Force for their work in the investigation and apprehension.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Morgan of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
